ARANSAS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE CAMPOUT, JANUARY 20-22, 2012

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937 as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife.  The refuge complex is made up of over 115,000 acres, and provides resting, feeding, wintering and nesting grounds for migratory birds and native Texas wildlife.  The refuge is world famous for hosting the largest wild flock of endangered whooping cranes every each winter.  Other native species that can be found on the refuge include the American alligator, javelina, roseate spoonbill, white-tailed deer, and armadillo.

The campout will focus on completing the requirements for the Fish and Wildlife Management Merit Badge.  Requirement 5(b), which is to construct a birdfeeder, will be completed at one of two workshops being offered by Peggy Nordmann on January 10 or 17.

The cost of the campout is $20.  Permission forms and money are due to adult organizer Peggy Nordmann by January 10.

NOTE:  The trailer will be loaded at the Troop Meeting on January 17, INCLUDING PERSONAL GEAR.
